A party or playdate would not be complete without some entertaining group party games.
These allow the partygoers to engage with each other and develop social skills.
When considering what group party games to include, you should bear in mind the following:
- if you’re including sporty games, some children might not be so good at sports, so you should try and think of ways that everyone can feel involved and able to win (maybe as part of a team where their special skill is needed by the whole team)
- early exclusion games (whereby someone loses towards the beginning of the game and has to sit out) should not make up the majority of the games – it’s better to have a high turnover of games so that everyone can be involved as much as possible
- the games that will be enjoyed most are those that the children have helped contribute to, so think of ways they can contribute to the running or judging of the game (whether by choosing rules or catching cheaters, etc)
One of our favorite group party games is The Shopping List game where everyone adds something to the shopping list and it is repeated by everyone in the circle. This can be made more fun by allowing the children to add an action or sing part of the shopping list. Best of all: let the children determine how the rules should be changed!
